How I get out the vote

Election day eve on the Franklin Pierce University Rindge, NH campus means chalking. This year, six students armed with sidewalk chalk had one major message to spread: it is time to vote.

The temporary graffiti aims to remind students what is on the line this election. Students promoted voting for feminism by writing “Vote 4 Women” and “Vote for LGBTQ+ rights.”

Reminding college students to vote is part of a larger push for young feminists to impact the election outcomes.

Efforts extended further than just chalking. Student organizers tabled alongside local candidates for weeks leading up to the election. With slight encouragement, students opened up about their fears of a world without abortion rights and their desire for better representation locally and federally.

Reminding students of the impact their voice has when they vote is empowering for organizers and students alike. If six student’s sidewalk messages encourage even six more people to vote for the cause, we are moving closer to a feminist majority.
